Salary: £29,335  – £32,000 per annum, depending on experience

Calum Kerr MSP is recruiting a full time Caseworker to join his constituency office, which will be based in Galashiels, with the possibility of some home working.

Preferred candidates will be able to demonstrate prior knowledge and understanding of the Midlothian South, Tweeddale and Lauderdale constituency area. This role involves supporting constituents with a wide range of issues and helping to ensure they receive effective representation and assistance. The successful candidate will work closely with the MSP and office team to manage casework, engage with local organisations, and support constituency priorities.

Key Responsibilities

• Manage and progress constituency casework on behalf of constituents

• Respond to enquiries by email, phone, and in person in a professional and empathetic manner

• Liaise with local authorities, government agencies, charities, and community organisations

• Maintain accurate records within the case management system

• Identify emerging local issues

• Assist with constituency surgeries and events

• Ensure all work is handled confidentially and in line with data protection requirements

Essential Skills and Experience

• Excellent written and verbal communication skills

• Ability to problem solve and get to the key information in issues raised

• Strong organisational skills with the ability to manage a varied workload

• Ability to handle sensitive and confidential matters with professionalism and empathy

• Experience working with members of the public or within a customer-facing environment

• Ability to work independently and as part of a small team

• Good IT skills, including Microsoft Office applications

• Knowledge of the Scottish Borders and/ or Midlothian area

Desirable

• Previous experience in casework, public affairs, local government, the third sector, or political environments

• Knowledge of devolved Scottish policy areas and public services

• Experience engaging with community groups or stakeholders
