Constituency and Communications Assistant for Alyn Smith MSP

Location: Stirling constituency office, with occasional travel to Parliament in Edinburgh

Salary: £30,687 – £36,523

Contract: Full-time (35 hours per week)

Job Details: Alyn Smith, SNP Member of Scottish Parliament for Stirling, is seeking a highly motivated, enthusiastic, and organised Constituency and Communications Assistant to join his busy team.

This role offers an excellent entry-level opportunity for someone looking to develop their career in politics and communications. You will work closely with the wider team to support Alyn in delivering for the people of Stirling.

The successful candidate will provide essential digital, research, and administrative support to help maintain the MSP’s public profile and keep constituents informed.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Digital & social media support
    • Assist with creating, drafting, and scheduling engaging content for the MSP’s social media platforms (Facebook, LinkedIn, Instagram, TikTok) and help keep the official website updated.
  • Producing materials that effectively convey my aims to the general public and media.
  • Keeping up to date with current media developments.
  • Building and maintaining relationships with stakeholders, particularly with local journalists and media outlets across the Forth Valley.
  • Identifying potential media opportunities and acting as media contact.
  • Corresponding with constituents and local campaign groups.
  • Producing high quality press briefings, speeches, presentations and written materials.
  • Research & information gathering
    • Gathering and distributing valuable data that supports my activities, including background research on constituency issues.
    • Preparing and delivering regular briefings and updates
  • Analysing, evaluating and interpreting data and statistics.
  • Routine correspondence
    • Help log and draft initial responses to routine constituent enquiries and policy-related correspondence.
  • Surgeries & events support
    • Provide administrative and logistical support for local constituency surgeries, public meetings, and community events, including preparing materials and managing attendee lists.

Essential skills & attributes:

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to write clearly and accurately for public audiences.
  • A keen interest in Scottish politics, current affairs, and the work of the Scottish Parliament.
  • Good digital literacy, including experience using main social media platforms and basic tools like Canva or video editing apps.
  • Strong organisational skills and attention to detail, with the ability to manage standard tasks and meet deadlines.
  • A positive, collaborative attitude and a willingness to learn and take on feedback from the wider team.
