Casework Assistant for Maree Todd MSP
Job description
Salary: £29,335 – £36,012 per annum
Hours: 35 hours per week
Location: Remote (islands-based)
Maree Todd MSP is looking for a Casework Assistant to join her office. This role will focus on delivering high-quality casework, acting as a key point of contact for constituents and managing enquiries in a professional and timely manner.
This role will involve coordinating, tracking and resolving casework, drafting clear and effective correspondence, and ensuring all enquiries are handled in line with agreed standards.
Responsibilities
- Supporting constituents through email, letters, phone calls and face-to-face meetings
- Investigating and progressing both routine and complex casework
- Keeping cases up to date by tracking, logging and recognising when to escalate issues within team
- Advocating on constituent’s behalf with relevant bodies to resolve matters
- Reviewing constituent records and documentation in line with casework GDPR requirements
- Supporting visits, events and community engagement activities in the islands
Requirements
- Have excellent organisational skills while being flexible in prioritising workloads
- Have excellent communications skills, verbal and IT skills
- Ability to work effectively as part of a small team
- Be patient and sensitive while remaining objective and open minded
- Be empathetic with the ability to build and maintain relationships with a variety of stakeholders
- Have a flexible and adaptable approach, being able to use good judgement and work on own initiative
- Be acutely aware of the responsibility of representing those unable to do so themselves in certain situations
- Have a natural interest in helping people with a curiosity to probe for further information where required
- Be a proactive problem solver with the motivation and resilience to adapt and deal with challenges.
- Have a good understanding of, and experience working with or in, island communities
- Dependable and willing to travel across the Islands
Desirable
- Casework experience
- Knowledge and understanding of local and national political issues

MSPs are employers in their own right. All MSP staff are required to be security vetted in line with HM Government (HMG) Personnel Security Controls and any employment cannot begin until security clearance has been granted. MSPs will also carry out other pre-employment checks including eligibility to work in the UK, and employment references where applicable.
