The SNP candidate in the Hamilton, Larkhall & Stonehouse by-election has voiced her to opposition to plans by Labour-run South Lanarkshire Council to only provide free transport to students who live more than 3 miles from their catchment secondary school, rather than the current 2 mile limit.

Keir Starmer has been challenged to visit the by-election in Hamilton, Larkhall and Stonehouse so he can personally hear what voters are saying about his policies.

Keir Starmer’s reported absence from the Hamilton, Larkhall and Stonehouse is yet another example of how the Labour party treats Scotland, says Katy Loudon, the SNP’s candidate in the by-election.

Last month the Labour government announced plans to cut £4.8 billion of support to disabled people. In the weeks since, the Joseph Rowntree Foundation has warned these are “the deepest cuts to social security since Osborne was Chancellor.”

The SNP is offering hope and delivering for the people of Hamilton, Larkhall and Stonehouse whilst Labour offers cuts and despair says Shona Robison, the Scottish Government’s Cabinet Secretary for Finance and Local Government.

So far, the Labour candidate in the Hamilton, Larkhall and Stonehouse by-election has not spoken out against Labour cuts which will harm countless families in the constituency.

Scots must act now to protect our democracy and shared values from the rise of the far right.
