Vote LibDem, get Tory
by Between 2010 and 2015 the Lib Dems propped up a Tory government that cut funding for public services and support for the most vulnerable.
And given the Lib Dem track record on election vows, there is no guarantee they won’t prop up another Tory government in the future.
Here are just some of the policies the Lib Dems helped the Tories introduce.
Cuts to public services
With support from the Lib Dems the Tories were able to implement their austerity agenda. By the end of 2015-16, £2.3 billion worth of cuts were made to the budget available for public services in Scotland by the Coalition government.
Cuts to disability benefits
It was estimated in 2014 that 600,000 people across the UK would lose all entitlement to disability benefits as a result of the move from Disability Living Allowance to PIP. With new powers over social security, the SNP Scottish Government is committed to maintaining, not cutting, disability benefits.
The cruel Bedroom Tax
Lib Dem MPs voted for the introduction of the Bedroom Tax affecting tens of thousands of low income families in Scotland. In government the SNP has fully mitigated the Bedroom Tax – and will abolish it as soon as possible.
Denying women the pensions they deserve
The Lib Dems voted for changes to the State Pension that deny millions of women born in the 1950s the pension they deserve. SNP MPs will continue to fight for this gross injustice to be addressed by the UK Government.
Increasing tuition fees
Despite standing on a manifesto pledge to scrap university tuition fees, the Lib Dems voted to increase them to £9,000 per year. In government the SNP has scrapped tuition fees in Scotland.
