We’re working to the EU and UK’s timetable.
The UK’s Brexit deal has to be agreed within 18 months, that takes us to Autumn 2018. Six months is then needed for ‘ratification’, before the UK formally leaves the EU. Here’s the EU’s chief Brexit negotiator.

So, everyone agrees, we will know the terms of Brexit by Autumn 2018.
So that Scotland has a choice between Autumn 2018 and Spring 2019, discussions need to start now.
To ensure Scotland can make an informed choice by that point, the UK Government needs to open discussions on a section 30 order (the procedure that will enable the Scottish Parliament to legislate for an independence referendum) now.
That’s why the Tories are trying to run out the clock, to deprive the people of Scotland of the opportunity to choose our future.
