Job Title: Policy and Research Officer
Location: Holyrood
Hours: Full-time; 35 hours per week
Salary: £34,633 per annum
Job Purpose
MSPs are employers in their own right. Under their employment, you will become part of a team supporting them in carrying out their duties. You’ll work in a dynamic and fast paced environment to provide an outstanding service for constituents.
The SNP Parliamentary Group of MSPs is looking for a full-time Policy & Research Officer to join the team with immediate effect.
Candidates will ideally have experience of political research, and familiarity with legislation or parliamentary process. Candidates will also need an interest in and firm knowledge of current Scottish politics at all levels and understanding of the Scottish Parliamentary system.
Responsibilities
Gathering and distributing valuable data that supports the Group’s activities
- Keeping your knowledge of policy areas up to date.
- Carrying out specific research projects for SNP MSPs and supporting them in Parliamentary Committees.
- Obtaining and compiling relevant research documents from external bodies.
- Preparing and delivering regular briefings and updates.
- Analysing, evaluating, and interpreting data and statistics.
- Assisting communications officers with media research and briefings on topical issues.
- Collaborating with colleagues from different services areas across the Parliament.
- Liaising with various external groups e.g., think-tanks, NGOs, other elected representatives.
Ensuring Group team is kept up to date with its relevant legislative and compliance obligations
- Ensuring all Group research complies with data protection legislation and GDPR requirements
- Checking for any updates to compliance related legislation and communicating changes to colleagues.

- Have excellent communications skills, with accurate attention to detail and the ability to work effectively with colleagues.
