What is SNP policy on Labour’s National Insurance hike?

The SNP in government will continue to lead the UK in delivering support for families and businesses, but Westminster policies are actively harming Scotland’s interests.

Labour’s decision to increase employers National Insurance contributions is hitting our public services, charities and businesses hard, while hurting employees’ pay packets.

Scottish firms are facing mounting cost pressures because of Labour’s tax on jobs with record high costs of hiring staff. Efforts to support businesses, entrepreneurs and investment are being undermined by this tax on jobs.

The SNP will continue to urge the Westminster government to reverse this decision before they cause lasting damage to Scotland’s economy.

We know people are struggling and is why the SNP is focussed on the cost of living, growing the economy and improving people’s lives.

As for those policy areas still under Westminster’s control, we need to see investment in public services and infrastructure, which supports industry and jobs and delivers support on the cost of living challenges people across Scotland are facing.

Though fundamentally, taking all decisions about Scotland in Scotland is the best way to build a nation where prosperity and fairness go hand-in-hand.

The powers that come with independence are what is essential to building the stronger economy required to boost living standards and public services.
