How will independence bring down energy bills?

Scotland is an energy-rich country. Yet, under Westminster, families are being forced to pay among the highest electricity prices in Europe – that’s the price Scotland pays because of Westminster control over our energy.

The SNP is clear: Scotland’s natural wealth of renewable energy resource must be used for the benefit of our citizens.

Scotland’s energy wealth must be invested in Scotland – there is no justice in a transition that casts aside thousands of skilled workers and eradicates any hope of reaching our Net Zero target.

While ordinary Scots pay some of the highest energy bills in Europe, Scotland’s energy wealth has been squandered as a cash cow for the Westminster Treasury for too long. In a nation as energy rich as Scotland, it is a disgrace that so many of our citizens are left energy poor.

The blame lies squarely at Westminster’s door; key powers over industry, trade, industrial relations, employment law and energy are all in Labour’s hands.

If we repeat the same mistakes of the past – and allow Scotland’s immense natural resources to be mismanaged by Westminster – then we risk the same fate.

With the full powers of independence, we can take full control of Scotland’s resources and use them for the benefit of our citizens by lowering bills and improving energy security.
