How will independence bring down energy bills?

Scotland is an energy-rich country. Yet, under Westminster, families are being forced to pay among the highest electricity prices in Europe – the price Scotland pays because of Westminster control over our energy.

We are clear: Scotland’s natural wealth of renewable energy resource must be used for the benefit of our citizens. Scotland’s energy wealth must be invested in Scotland; there is no justice in a transition that casts aside thousands of skilled workers and eradicates any hope of reaching our Net Zero target.

Scotland’s energy wealth has been squandered as a cash cow for the Treasury, while ordinary Scots pay some of the highest bills in Europe. In a nation as energy rich as Scotland, it is a disgrace that so many of our citizens are energy poor.

The blame lies squarely at Westminster’s door; key powers over industry, trade, industrial relations, employment law and energy are all in Labour’s hands. If we repeat the same mistakes of the past – and allow Scotland’s immense natural resources to be mismanaged by Westminster – then we risk the same fate.

With the full powers of independence, we can take full control of Scotland’s resources and use them for the benefit of our citizens — lowering bills and improving energy security.
