How is the SNP promoting equality in sport?
The SNP believes there should be no barriers to participating in sport and physical activity, and our approach in government has focused on addressing inequalities in opportunities to be active.
Sport is for everyone, and we should all feel included, and able to take part and access the benefits of sport.
Physical activity and sport is vital to the wellbeing of the nation and it’s important everyone can access high quality facilities.
We know that most, if not all, local authorities have concessionary schemes providing reduced or free access to sports and leisure facilities for disabled people.
As the Scottish Government our partners in sportscotland established a partnership agreement with ENABLE Scotland and Scottish Disability Sport to help make sport accessible for all.
This ENABLE partnership focused on developing leadership and advocacy; improving workforce diversity; building community connections and participation; and improving communications.
And this partnership with Scottish Disability Sport built on existing work but importantly it also outlined the new focus around policy engagement and to support this, strategic communications.
