How does the SNP’s budget help families?
The SNP’s 2026–27 budget for Scotland included several measures introduced by the SNP in government to support families during the cost of living crisis.
These measures protect existing support and introduced new initiatives, targeting families, children, and lower‑income taxpayers.
Key support measures we announced include:
1. An increase to the Scottish Child Payment
The Scottish Child Payment will rise to £40 per week for children under one year old which continues the SNP government’s focus on tackling child poverty.
2. The Universal Breakfast Club for primary school children
Over £100 million is being invested to fund support for:
- A universal breakfast club offer for all primary‑aged pupils.
- Expanded wraparound activity clubs, which help families with childcare outside typical school hours.
3. A £50 million annual package for whole-family support
This is an annual investment of £50 million which will provide:
- Early, accessible support for families.
- Services aimed at reducing crises and improving family wellbeing.
4. Income tax support
Due to tax policy decisions made by the SNP as the Scottish Government, 55% of Scottish taxpayers are expected to pay less income tax than they would if they lived in England.
