What is the SNP’s stance on manufacturing munitions?

The SNP is committed to human rights and the prosperity of the Scottish defence sector. In order to support the world-leading defence industry in Scotland and to reflect the reality of the current dangers in our world, the SNP has lifted the previous restriction on the use of public support for the production of munitions.

There remains a very high standard for this production, and the restriction still applies to those who fail to demonstrate that their products are not involved militarily with Israel or other countries implicated in genocide.

This policy shift has been done in conjunction with a requirement for defence companies to demonstrate that their products are not being used militarily by Israel or other states accused of genocide and has included more strict human rights due diligence requirements.

This move demonstrates that the SNP has an unshakable confidence in the defence industry in Scotland and the expertise and skills of our defence workforce. It also shows that the SNP maintains a strong ethical stance on international humanitarian law and human rights standards.
