What is the SNP’s position on the Bedroom Tax?

The SNP is fully mitigating the impact of the Bedroom Tax in Scotland and will abolish it as soon as we have the powers to do so. The Bedroom Tax was imposed against Scotland’s will by the Tories and is now being continued by Labour.

The SNP in government quite rightly stepped in to protect Scotland’s most vulnerable residents from the Bedroom Tax, but it’s cost £708m since 2013, an average of £59 million a year – enough to employ over 1,600 teachers or almost 2,000 nurses.

Keir Starmer should have scrapped the Bedroom Tax in the recent budget but didn’t.

Anas Sarwar must now say whether he will stand up to his London bosses and demand that the Westminster Labour government must now scrap the bedroom tax and save Scotland millions, which could be better spent elsewhere.
