What is the SNP’s position on Council Tax?

The SNP is committed to reforming the Council Tax and to make it fairer.

Nevertheless, Scottish taxpayers are getting the best deal amongst all the nations of the UK.

Council Tax in Scotland is on average £737 a year less than in Labour-run England, and £627 a year less than in Labour-run Wales for a Band D property.

As the Scottish Government the SNP has with Scotland’s councils in COSLA to examine ways to make Council Tax fairer, which will help to continue to deliver better public services across Scotland.

By working closely with local authorities and listening to the public, we will be seeking a consensus on a local taxation system that is fairer, financially sustainable and fits a modern Scotland.
