How is the SNP supporting the culture sector?
Culture is central to who we are as a nation. The SNP will always put Scotland’s interests first and continue to invest in our world-renowned arts and culture sector.
As the Scottish Government the SNP’s Budget for 2025-26 committed an extra £34 million for culture – halfway, in just two years, to reaching the five-year commitment to a recurring £100 million increase for the sector.
Scotland’s arts and culture sector needs to have stable finance in place in order to fulfil its vast potential and the SNP Budget could not be clearer in its steadfast support for cultural organisations, the creative industries, and the potential of Scotland’s individual artists.
It is the SNP which has also ensured that free access has been maintained to our national museums and galleries.
We invested more than £10 million in the Culture Collective programme to support 26 community-based arts projects across Scotland – projects which have used culture and creativity to leverage real change and investment in local communities.
Major events play a vital role in Scottish tourism by attracting people to Scotland and enhancing the country’s international profile.
Thus, in recent years Scotland has consolidated its position as the perfect stage for major events having successfully hosted, with Scottish Government support, the Commonwealth Games, the Ryder Cup, the Solheim Cup and in 2021 we co-hosted the rescheduled UEFA European Football Championship.
Aa a significant part of Scotland’s culture, Gaelic and Scots are have been supported through the Scottish Languages Bill as part of the SNP’s commitment to ensure they thrive and grow.
The Scottish Languages Bill empowers parents to ask for a Gaelic school to be established in their area, supporting the creation of areas of linguistic significance in Gaelic communities, and introducing targets on the number of people speaking and learning Gaelic.
