How is the SNP supporting house-building in rural areas?
The SNP has introduced a range of measures to support house building in rural areas.
That includes the Rural Housing Fund, which commits to building new, affordable homes in rural Scotland, and the Islands Housing Fund which provides ring-fenced funding for islands housing projects.
That means the housing needs of older people to be met more appropriately, and helps young people and families to stay and make their lives in rural, remote and island communities.
We’re also taking action to bring empty homes back into use.
Through schemes like the Empty Homes Partnership, Empty Homes Fund and Town Centre Empty Homes Fund, we’re supporting Councils and individuals to make empty homes liveable again.
Almost 13,000 homes have returned to active use since 2010 – a record breaking 2,066 in 2024-25 alone, thanks to these SNP schemes.
We are continuing to expand this scheme by delivering additional empty homes officers, expanding the capacity of the Scottish Empty Homes Partnership and championing innovative projects that have the potential to scale and spread across Scotland.
