How has the SNP improved Scotland’s rail services?
The SNP Scottish Government took ScotRail back into public ownership – and that has delivered real results for the people of Scotland.
Without this, we could never have scrapped peak rail fares, saving commuters on some routes as much as £2,000 a year.
Scotland now also has the lowest rate of train cancellations in the UK.
And we’re investing in rail infrastructure – in June 2024, the line to Leven was successfully reinstated allowing the return of passengers to Cameron Bridge and Leven.
Since 2010 the SNP has connected or reconnected communities all over Scotland to the rail network.
ScotRail passenger numbers have increased by 75% from 46.7 million in 2021/22 to around 82 million in 2023/24, making ScotRail one of the fastest growing operators, with one of the best passenger satisfaction rates.
