What is the SNP’s position on tuition fees?
At a time when students in other parts of the UK face mounting debt and tuition fees, our resolute commitment to free tuition and our enhanced student support offering means that access to education remains based on the ability to learn and not the ability to pay.
One of the very first acts of the new SNP Government was to restore Scotland’s historic tradition of free education and scrap tuition fees. We have always maintained that access to education should be based on the ability to learn not on the ability to pay.
The other parties can’t be trusted on ensuring higher education remains free in Scotland. It was Labour who first introduced them – after promising they had no plans to do so; it was the Tories who increased them massively; and it was the LibDems who infamously broke their election promise to oppose more increases.
As long as the SNP is in government there will not be tuition fees in Scotland.
