Cunninghame South

On 5th May 2016 Ruth was elected to represent the constituency of Cunninghame South within the Scottish Parliament. This includes the North Ayrshire based towns of Irvine, Kilwinning and Stevenston, and the surrounding villages of Springside, Dreghorn, and Drybridge. Through her work as an MSP she is privileged to represent residents, groups and businesses on a variety of issues, both at Holyrood and within the constituency.

As a backbencher in the Scottish Parliament, Ruth is currently the Convener of the Equalities and Human Rights Committee, and has previously served on the Local Government Committee, Social Security Committee and the Education and Skills Committee, and as a party whip for the SNP.  

Ruth is also a member of various Cross-Party Groups, covering issues such as Children and Young People, Commercial Sexual Exploitation, Malawi, Nuclear Disarmament, and Tourism. In addition, she is honoured to have been appointed to the role of Convener of the Cross-Party Group on Credit Unions, and Co-Convener of the Cross-Party Group on Kurdistan.
