Kenneth Gibson

Cunninghame North

Kenneth was born in Paisley in 1961, educated at Bellahouston Academy and the University of Stirling, and graduated with a BA in Economics.

Kenneth lives in Kilbirnie and was educated at the University of Stirling, graduating with a BA in Economics.  Prior to his election, he worked in the steel and pharmaceutical industries for 15 years and served as Leader of the Opposition on Glasgow City Council.

He served as a councillor from 1992-1999, achieving in his second term the biggest majority of any Scottish councillor. In 1999 he was elected as an MSP for Glasgow.

Kenneth was SNP Shadow Minister for Local Government from 1997-2001 and Shadow Minister for Social justice, Housing, Urban Regeneration and Planning from 2001-2003.

In 2007 Kenneth won Cunninghame North by 48 votes and was re-elected in 2011 with a majority of 6,117 and in 2016 with a majority of 8,724. For five years he convened the Scottish Parliament’s Finance Committee, which scrutinises the Parliament’s Budget and Financial Memorandum of every Bill.

Kenneth serves on a number of Cross-party Groups and is the convener of Epilepsy and Life Sciences amongst others.
