Stuart McDonald

Cumbernauld, Kilsyth & Kirkintilloch East

Stuart McDonald is the Member of Parliament for Cumbernauld, Kilsyth and Kirkintilloch East.  He served for several years as SNP Spokesperson on Immigration, Asylum and Border Control, then Home Affairs spokesperson and subsequently Justice and Immigration spokesperson at Westminster.

He has also served on the Home Affairs and Justice Select Committees. Since April he has been SNP Treasurer.  Stuart grew up in Milton of Campsie, studied law at Edinburgh University and trained and worked in the legal profession for eight years both in private practice and in house.

In 2009, Stuart made the switch into politics taking up research posts at the Scottish Parliament. This lead on to the role of head of information at Yes Scotland during the referendum campaign. Finally, Stuart worked for the Coalition for Racial Equality and Rights as Parliamentary and Public Affairs Officer before becoming an MP.
