Joining the Party online
We collect the required information in order to check you meet the conditions of and help you fulfil the opportunities provided by membership of the SNP. At your option, we ask for additional information such as gender and date of birth to help us provide a better membership service to you.
Donating to the SNP
The information we ask for is used to process your donation and, if you donate more than £500, to check that you are on the UK electoral register. If you donate more than £1,500 to an SNP unit (e.g. local branch or Constituency organisation) or more than £7,500 to the SNP nationally in the course of a calendar year, your name and the amount of your donation will be reported to the Electoral Commission for publication on their public register of donations to the SNP.
Campaign Support Pledges
By pledging your support and providing contact details, you agree to your details being held and to receive appropriate communications from the SNP by email, text messages and social media channels regarding the campaign you are supporting, the SNP and its policy aims more generally. You can opt out of all of these communications at any time.
We will never make public your individual support without your explicit consent to do so, but we may aggregate the number of supporters for any campaign and display them on a map at a postal outcode level (e.g. EH8).
We occasionally use online polls and surveys to allow us to gather statistical information on the support for particular policies or for general political opinions. Contact details are used to allow the information to be anonymously aggregated geographically and to ensure that duplicate surveys are detected. Email addresses may be used for follow-up research. We will never share your survey information with third parties.
Social media broadcast channels
You may opt-in to receiving content via broadcast services, such as WhatsApp, Snapchat and YouTube. By opting-in you consent to us contacting you with the details you have supplied. You can opt-out at any time.
Data Protection Act
The information you supply us will be treated with the strictest confidence in accordance with the Data Protection Act. Information may be stored on a computer database and used to keep you informed of SNP news, campaign and other opportunities to support the Party. If you prefer not to receive any future information, please contact us.
How we protect your information
Our website has security measures in place to protect against the loss, misuse or alteration of the information under our control. Our server is located in a locked, secure environment, with a guard posted 24 hours a day. When you contribute online, we use a secure server to protect your credit card number and other personal information during transmission. Credit card details remain encrypted until they are transferred to a computer not directly connected to the internet.
A cookie is a tiny text file that is stored on your computer. We may use technology to track the patterns of behaviour of visitors to our site. This can include using this "cookie" file which would be stored on your computer. You can usually modify your browser to prevent this happening. We may store the internet address you connect to our computer with, the time and date you connected, browser information and the pages you visited. This information is used only to provide us with a broad statistical breakdown of our site usage and to monitor site security.
