What is the SNP doing to help people on to the housing ladder?

Since taking office, we have delivered 96,750 affordable homes, nearly 67,000 of which were for social rent. We will deliver a further 100,000 affordable homes by 2032.

We have also ended Right to Buy to safeguard up to 15,500 existing homes in the social rented sector for future generations.

In our approach to Land and Buildings Transaction Tax, which has replaced Stamp Duty in Scotland, we have prioritised support for first time buyers and those buying homes at the lower end of the market. We will maintain the current rates and bands for residential LBTT for the full parliamentary term, including our First Time Buyer relief, which ensures that almost 80% of people in Scotland pay no tax on the purchase of their first home.

For many young people, even those on decent incomes, saving for a deposit to buy a house takes so long it can become a distant dream. To help struggling first-time buyers get on the property ladder, we introduced the First Home Fund to help boost the deposit needed to purchase a property in Scotland. We have invested a total of £240 million in the Fund and expect to support over 11,000 households to buy their first home.
