Working three days a week in the busy constituency office in Blairgowrie for John Swinney MSP, your duties will be to assist the Office Manager in managing constituency casework and correspondence. This role will be working for John Swinney in his capacity as local MSP and NOT as Deputy First Minister and Cabinet Secretary for Education.
You will be expected to spend the largest proportion of your time in handling cases raised by constituents but will also be required to conduct research, monitor the media and liaise with local organisations and other parliamentary offices. You will be expected to gather and maintain a grasp of local issues in relation to casework.
You will also be expected to use your own initiative as well as work as part of a team. The successful candidate will be an organised and well-motivated individual with good communication skills, an interest in current affairs and a good knowledge of Scottish politics.
Salary will be commensurate on experience and calculated on a pro rata basis based on a full-time salary of between £20,725 and £26,343. You will also benefit from a 10% employer’s pension contribution. In addition, if required, you can benefit from the Childcare Voucher Scheme of a maximum £52.02 per week for pre-school children and a maximum of £12.97 per week for school age children subject to an overall limit of £64.80 per week/£243 per month. The subsidy is pro-rated for part-time staff or if childcare is only required on a part-time basis.
