SNP welcome housebuilding figures

Welcoming statistics published today showing the Scottish Government is on track to deliver 30,000 affordable homes during the lifetime of this parliament, South Scotland MSP Aileen McLeod – a member of the Scottish Parliament’s Infrastructure and Investment Committee, said:

“Not only has the provision of this pledge helped people across Scotland onto the housing ladder, it is also supporting our construction industry and our economy.

“In the face of huge cuts from a Westminster government that refuses to spend on infrastructure projects, the SNP Government is supporting our building industry as best it can.

“We are backing a mortgage indemnity scheme, a New Supply Shared Equity with Developers scheme and, in the next three years, will provide £710million for the Affordable Housing Supply Programme.

“We have ambitious housing-related targets but remain committed to ensuring every single person in Scotland has access to a home that is secure, warm and affordable.

“The SNP Government has advocated a new generation of council houses and its decision to invest £115 million in the sector has paid off with record numbers of homes being built that are also greener and more energy efficient."
