Part/Full time Communications & Media Officer to Douglas Chapman MP

Douglas Chapman MP for Dunfermline and West Fife has a vacancy for a full-time Communications & Media Officer in his Constituency Office, with occasional travel to Westminster. The successful applicant will be highly organised, an excellent communicator and able to work to tight deadlines in a busy MPs office.

Key Skills

  • Analyse, evaluate and interpret news and data to ensure the MP is accurately informed on key issues and is aware of trends.
  • Proactive and reactive communications with local and national media, across broadcast and print.
  • Prepare media briefings.
  • Work on their own initiative preparing press releases, write and edit content for publication across various media outlets, and demonstrate sound political and online community judgment.
  • Managing social media platforms & website, creating relevant and engaging content
  • Experienced in short video making and graphics for social media content
  • Follow up on social media queries and comments
  • Project & Event management
  • Assisting with casework enquiries, surgeries & meetings
  • Research local, regional and national issues to support the MP’s work
  • Respond to routine correspondence and enquiries from constituents, the media, lobbyists and pressure groups.


The successful candidate will be able to demonstrate they have:

  • Knowledge of the Dunfermline and West Fife constituency
  • Understanding of UK, Scottish and Local Government politics
  • Excellent written and verbal communications
  • Good organisational and time management skills
  • A positive team-oriented attitude but also an ability to work independently
  • Excellent time management skills, the ability to work under pressure and the ability to meet tight deadlines
  • Computer literate – must have good working knowledge of Excel, Word and Email systems
  • Demonstrable experience and understanding of the main social media platforms, including Twitter, Facebook, YouTube and Instagram
  • Experience working with social media management tools, video making and software.
  • Able to work with diplomacy, discretion and confidentiality
  • Sympathetic to the aims and values of the Scottish National Party


Salary – £23250 -£25500 p.a. depending on experience. Full Time 37.5hours Part time pro rata


Travel may also be occasionally required for attendance at meetings, events, and training.

The successful candidate will be required to comply with the Baseline Personnel Security Standard, undertaken by the Members’ Staff Verification Office.
