Protect small business lending SNP urge

Responding to the Chancellor’s statement on the recommendations of Sir John Vickers’ Independent Commission on Banking, SNP Treasury spokesperson Stewart Hosie MP welcomed implementation of the proposals, but called for assurances that their introduction does not undermine SME lending or jobs in Scotland.

SNP comment on employment statistics

Commenting on the publication of public sector employment and labour market statistics, SNP Treasury spokesperson Stewart Hosie MP pointed out that the rate of private sector employment is now at its highest level since devolution, having risen more than public sector employment had fallen – the opposite to the position across the UK as a whole.

65% support for better off independent Scotland

The SNP today said the latest Scottish Social Attitudes Survey showed a
“surge in support for independence” as 65 per cent of people said that
they would support independence on the basis that they would be better
off.

Chancellor's statement is "too little too late"

Mr Swinney reacted to George Osborne's Autumn Statement and said: “The Chancellor had to swallow a bitter pill today. The Office for Budget Responsibility (OBR) has demonstrated that the Westminster coalition’s Plan A is an abject failure, with a swingeing cut of well over two thirds in the growth forecast for 2012 - and the OBR assess that the UK is currently contracting.

Swinney demands answers from UK on investment

Finance Secretary John Swinney has written to Chancellor George Osborne to question him on recent comments that risk investment in Scotland.


The unsubstantiated claims from George Osborne contrast starkly with the long list of companies that have invested in Scotland, including Amazon whose new facilities in Edinburgh and Dunfermline were opened by the First Minister today.
