FM calls for Year of Climate Justice in 2012

Alex Salmond has urged world leaders to make 2012 a 'Year of Climate Justice' ahead of a major United Nations conference on sustainable development in June.

The First Minister said climate justice should be the focus of sustainable development during 2012 and form a major part of discussions at the Rio+20 to be held in Rio de Janeiro in Brazil.

Concern over nuclear subsidy plan

SNP Westminster Energy spokesperson Mike Weir MP has expressed concern at the publication of plans by the UK Government to introduce Contracts for Difference as part of electricity market reforms – Mr Weir described the proposal, which will provide a guaranteed price, as “yet another sop to nuclear generators”.

SNP MSP Annabelle Ewing has condemned the Ministry of Defence for refusing to take responsibility to clean up radiation at Dalgety Bay.

The MSP for Mid Scotland and Fife, whose constituency covers Dalgety Bay, says the MoD’s refusal is a “slap in the face to the people of Fife”.
