Glasgow East by-election

SNP by-election winner, John Mason MP, has taken his seat in the House of Commons on the first day back after summer recess. John sensationally won the Glasgow East by-election on 24 July 2008, overturning a Labour majority of 13,507 to win his seat with a swing of 22.54%.

The SNP's victory in Glasgow East has brought the eyes of the worlds media to Glasgow and to Scotland.

SNP membership continues to rise with 250 new members signing up over the recent Glasgow East by-election.

SNP Candidate Cllr John Mason today urged people to send a strong message to Gordon Brown with a vote for the SNP on polling day.

The SNP campaign today returned to The Hub in Wellhouse, the location of the campaign launch, for the climax of the SNP's by-election campaign in Glasgow East where he said that a win for the SNP will be a win for Glasgow East.

Commenting on figures released today showing a dramatic reduction in the number of anti-social crimes recorded in Fife, after a pilot scheme was introduced to ban under-21s from purchasing alcohol at off-sales SNP Glasgow East candidate Cllr John Mason said it showed voting SNP works.

Commenting on official statements which show that Gordon Brown gifted silverware worth over £140 to Margaret Thatcher the SNP's Westminster leader Angus Robertson said it was an enormous blunder on the eve of the Glasgow East by-election.

The SNP welcomed the publication of a politics.co.uk poll which shows only 46% of people believe Labour can win the Glasgow East by-election, while 51% said the SNP would govern Glasgow East better than Labour.
