Linda Fabiani MSP
- MSP for East Kilbride
Born in Glasgow in December 1956, Linda was educated at Hyndland Secondary School, Napier College and Glasgow University.
Immediately before her first election in 1999, she was the Director of East Kilbride Housing Association and still maintains her fellowship of the Chartered Institute of Housing.
She has had a long interest in international development matters, and has continued that interest into her elected life, being an observer at the East Timor Independence referendum and having taken part in democracy building exercises in Malawi,Tanzania and Peru.
She has been an office bearer of cross-party groups on International Development and Refugees and Asylum Seekers. From September 2005 until the election this year she was Convenor of the European and External Relations Committee of the Scottish Parliament, earning the respect of other MSPs and of MEPs for the drive and direction she gave the committee.
Linda's support for community arts organisations and her enjoyment of the traditional arts in Scotland are mirrored by her enthusiasm for cultural initiatives crossing international borders and her work in promoting Scottish-Italian cultural links was recognised by the Italian government making her a Cavaliere dell'Ordine della Stella della Solidarieta' Italiana in March 2007.
She was the SNP representative on the Holyrood Progress Group which took the day to day role of client for the building of the Scottish Parliament.
