Labour Chief Strategist Quits
Responding to the resignation of Steven Lawther, Labour's head of communications, as reported in the Sunday Herald today, the Scottish National Party's Campaign Director Mr Angus Robertson MP said it confirmed simmering tensions at the heart of the Labour campaign.
Commenting Mr Robertson said:
"This shock resignation confirms simmering tensions at the heart of the Labour campaign. Former First Minister Henry McLeish memorably described their campaign as 'negative', 'extreme', and 'London-based', and someone has finally said enough is enough.
"Jack McConnell isn't in charge of his own campaign. He is the invisible man of Scottish politics, not even allowed to go on television.
"I suspect that the blustering spectacle of Lord Foulkes fronting media appearances for Labour in place of Mr McConnell will cause many to question the basis of their campaign.
"While Labour are in disarray and disintegrating, the SNP's positive message of a successful Scotland with Alex Salmond as First Minister is growing in strength and appeal."
