Alex Salmond Congratulates Aberdeen By-Election Victor

Cllr John Corall has become the latest SNP elected representative following his decisive victory in the local authority by-election. The three member multi-member ward is already represented by an SNP councillor and John Corall's victory now means the SNP have two councillors in the ward.

The result meant:

  • SNP overtake Tories in 1st preference votes to take top spot
  • First Council by-election under PR won by SNP
  • 3% swing from Labour to SNP

Commenting on being congratulated by the First Minister Cllr Corall said:

"It is a great honour to have been personally congratulated by the First Minister and SNP Leader on winning Midstocket and Rosemount.

"It's fantastic to be part of the SNP's growing winning team on Aberdeen Council. I'm honoured that the voters of Midstocket and Rosemount have placed their trust in me and the SNP in this election.

"The SNP worked hard for this result and I will work equally as hard as SNP councillor for all the people of Midstocket and Rosemount."

Commenting on John's victory the First Minister said:

"I am pleased to have to congratulate John on delivering a great SNP victory in the first by-election since May.

"It is a tremendous success for outstanding local candidate John Corall and for the SNP as a whole. Winning a second seat in Midstocket/Rosemount is a great achievement.

"With the SNP at 48% in the opinion polls this result confirms what the polls are telling us. Polls are one thing but election results are what counts."
