Biography
Born 1944 in Glasgow, Andrew was educated at Govan High School and Glasgow University.
He was a District Councillor in Stirling in 1974 and Provost of Angus District (1984-1987), before being elected to Westminster as MP for South Angus (1974-1979), MP for Angus East (1987-1997) which became Angus (1997-2001).
He is now MSP for Angus, the SNP's representative on the Scottish Parliament's Corporate Body, and the deputy convener of the Local Government and Transport Committee.
An elder in the Church of Scotland, Mr Welsh's interests include music, French and Chinese. He is married and has one daughter.
