Biography

Stewart is Minister for Transport, Infrastructure & Climate Change in the Department of Finance & Sustainable Growth.

He was elected as MSP for Banff and Buchan at a by-election in 2001 and returned in 2003. Since being elected, he has campaigned to save Peterhead Prison, establish a new hospital in Banff and a 3-shift ambulance station in Fraserburgh.

His constituency priorities have been the future of the fishing industry, ensuring adequate out-of-hours medical service for his constituents, and gaining a re-build for Peterhead Prison.

Married, he lives with Sandra in Banffshire. Prior to being elected, he worked in technology with Bank of Scotland for 30 years, retiring as Director of Technology Innovation.

He has also lectured in the business school at Heriot-Watt University and, in the 1960s, worked in a psychiatric hospital.

He is a graduate of Aberdeen University with a modest degree in mathematics. His leisure interests include photography, reading and writing and private flying.

Surgery Information

Regular surgeries are held throughout the year. These are advertised in the Buchan Observer if in the Peterhead area, the Fraserburgh Herald if in the Fraserburgh area, and Banffshire Journal if in Banffshire.

Anyone with a problem can avoid having to wait for a surgery appointment by calling my Constituency Office on 01779 470444 in total confidence where my staff will be pleased to pass me your details.

Anyone who cannot get to a surgery because they are disabled or housebound only has to get in touch and alternative arrangements can be made.

Many problems can be dealt with by letter and you can write to me at: 17 Maiden Street, Peterhead, Aberdeenshire AB42 1EE.

Please note that surgeries and assistance with individual problems are available to residents of the Scottish Parliamentary constituency of Banff & Buchan only.
