Kevin Stewart is the Deputy Leader of Aberdeen City Council and a councillor for the Northfield area of the city.

'As a born and bred Aberdonian I know full well about the wealth that has been generated by the North Sea oil and gas industry. However, here in the Energy Capital of Europe, we have poverty amidst plenty and successive Westminster governments have squandered our oil wealth on economic mismanagement, weapons of mass destruction and illegal wars.

In my opinion it's time for Scotland to take full control of our oil reserves, to grasp independence and to invest the wealth created here into building a more socially just society. It's time to follow the example of independent Norway who have used their oil money not only to create a just and fair society today, but have invested some of the income into creating a fund for future generations.'
