Truth of invasion lost to spin
SNP Westminster Leader and Defence Spokesperson, Angus Robertson MP described former Prime Minister Tony Blair's failure to express any regret over the Iraq war as chilling.
Commenting as Tony Blair gave evidence to the Chilcot Inquiry, Mr Robertson said:
"No matter how skilfully he ducked and dived today, Tony Blair’s legacy will forever be that of the illegal, immoral Iraq war.
"Chillingly, the ex-Prime Minister showed no regret for his dubious decisions which led us into the worst foreign policy disaster in modern times.
"He directly contradicted the statements of senior officials and politicians who have already given evidence to Sir John Chilcot.
"The Iraq Inquiry has been massively damaging for Labour. Those who lead should not mislead and the lies Labour told have been laid bare today.
"For all of those who opposed the Iraq invasion and for the thousands who lost their lives to it, the sad fact is that the real reasons behind it will probably never been known.
"The truth of the Iraq invasion has been forever lost to the New Labour spin machine."
