Nuclear deterrent cover up condemned
The SNP at Westminster has condemened Labour's cover up of information over the control of Trident missiles.
A report released under the Freedom of Information Act by the U.S. Government’s National Nuclear Security Administration has revealed the neutron generators vital for warhead functioning are supplied to the UK by America.
The UK Government has previously refused to release this information in response to parliamentary questions by Mr Robertson on “security grounds”.
Commenting Mr Robertson said:
“The claim that the UK is an independent nuclear deterrent is a keystone in the Labour Government’s justification of its nuclear obsession.
“Labour’s cloak of secrecy is unravelling at the seams. Their lies about weapons of mass destruction were revealed by a succession of witnesses before the Chilcot Inquiry this week. Now these reports destroy the claim that the UK possesses an independent nuclear deterrent.
“We simply cannot believe a word the Labour Government says – not least when it comes to defence.
“Maintaining the nuclear deterrent is morally and economically unjustifiable. To renew it would be folly. Gordon Brown should abandon his plans for a Son of Trident immediately."
