Why do some hospitals still charge for parking despite the SNP's ban?
Labour claim:
"SNP MSP's support parking charges at NHS hospitals."
SNP say: "We don't - but Labour did."
Background:
In September 2008, the Scottish Government announced it was ending charges for parking at NHS hospitals across Scotland.
For 3 hospitals, Ninewells in Dundee, Edinburgh Royal Infirmary, and Glasgow Royal Infirmary charges would be capped at £3.
A Labour MSP, Paul Martin, has launched a Private Members Bill which would prohibit charging on all NHS sites, places a legal requirement on NHS boards to ensure there is reasonable provision for free and well managed parking facilities.
The truth:
The SNP have abolished car parking at every possible hospital in Scotland.
Due to the PFI agreements that Labour entered into, the Scottish GOvernment can only cap the charges at the 3 remaining hospitals.
Paul Martin's Bill would cost the NHS in Scotland tens of millions of pounds - the full 30 year cost of car parking at 3 sites.
These hospitals had entered into Private Finance Initiatives set up by Labour, supported by Labour MSP's. The SNP have done everything in its power to reverse the bad decisions of the Labour/Liberal administration.
Truth to the claim: 0%
