Delivering value for money to boost economy
The Scottish Government revealed that, as part of the six-point economic recovery plan to help families and business, we are delivering on our pledge announced on 9 October 2008 to pay suppliers within 10 working days, instead of the previous target of 30 days.
In the month of December 2008, 84 per cent of transactions were paid within 10 working days.
A spokesperson for Finance Cabinet Secretary John Swinney said:
"The Scottish Government are doing everything within our powers to help families and business. We are accelerating spending to support jobs, boosting our fuel poverty programmes, cutting business rates and providing the resources to freeze the Council Tax.
"And from a standing start in October, we paid 84 per cent of our suppliers within 10 working days in December, which underlines our commitment to taking all the steps we can to help the economy and Scottish business during tough times."
Note:
The Scottish Government’s six-point economic recovery plan includes:
* Reshaping capital spending plans
* Ensuring all government activity, including on planning and regulation, supports economic development
* Intensifying activity and support for tourism and Homecoming 2009
* Intensifying work around energy efficiency and fuel poverty
* Increasing advice to businesses and individuals
* Improving financial advice to vulnerable individuals
