Candidate for the Glenrothes by-election Peter Grant will be
joined by Sports Minister Stewart Maxwell today (Friday) as they
highlight the SNP's commitment to tackling anti-social behaviour in
Fife.
The pair will visit the Street:Live project in Buckhaven, a
fortnightly football, sports and activities event which targets young
people in potential anti-social behaviour hotspots and offers
alternative activities.
Street:Live with Levenmouth YMCA received £26,000 from the Scottish Government's Cashback for Communities scheme which invests money taken from criminals back in to communities.
Speaking ahead of the visit to Street:Live SNP Candidate Peter Grant said:
"Street:Live and Levenmouth YMCA are doing a fantastic job at giving Fife's young people alternatives to anti-social behaviour.
"I know the majority of young people in this constituency are fine
members of our community, but I want to see everyone in Fife achieve their full potential.
"Projects like Street:Live have a major role to play in improving the
quality of life for some of our young people and our communities by
offering them activities they can really get into.
"To tackle anti-social behaviour we need to make sure that as well as tackling the problems of drink, drugs and deprivation we give young people alternatives to get them off street corners and involved as part of our community.
"The SNP Government's Cashback for Communities scheme takes money from the criminals and invests it in Scotland's young people. This is another example of the SNP on your side in Fife and is an excellent example of the difference this money can make."
Sports Minister Stewart Maxwell said;
"Across Scotland we are seeing criminals money invested in a sporting future for our young people.
"With Cashback money invested in football, basketball and rugby as well as other activities like digital media and arts the SNP is on
your side, in your community helping to make a difference.
"Having just returned from the youth Commonwealth Games in India, with some excellent competitors from this part of Fife I know we have a real sporting future.
"Cashback and projects like Street:Live are bringing sporting
activities direct to young people and offering a real opportunity for
Fife's teenagers to try something new."
