Voting SNP gives you cheaper perscriptions

SNP Glenrothes candidate Cllr Peter Grant was today (Tuesday) joined by Public Health Minister Shona Robison MSP, on a visit to a local pharmacy as they highlighted cost of living issues in the constituency.

Ms Robison and Cllr Grant met staff and customers at the Vantage Brian Johnston Pharmacy in Cardenden where customers are benefiting from the SNP Government's action to cut prescription charges.

Cllr Grant said:

"The SNP Government promised to reduce prescription charges as we move to abolish them altogether. It is therefore good to meet local people who are benefiting from the delivery of this key commitment during a time of soaring of bills. We have helped put money back in people's pockets.

"Labour ducked and dived on this issue, and it is fairer that people do not have to face the choice of paying for prescriptions or their heating bills.

"The reduced charges mean that everyone who pays for prescriptions will pay less, and the message from people in Cardenden is that this has made a significant difference for local people.

"That's why the SNP is moving to reduce charges again next year and in 2010, before abolishing them altogether in April 2011."

Health Minister Shona Robison added:

"More and more people are living with long-term conditions and with the right support and medication, patients can go on to enjoy a better quality of life.

"The SNP Government's action to substantially reduce the cost of prescriptions is the simplest and most effective way of providing direct financial support to people with chronic conditions.

"Balancing household budgets is getting harder every day as household and other essential costs continue to rise, and the SNP is working to help households make ends meet in these tough economic times."
