SNP working hard as Glenrothes poll date is set

Commenting on the confirmation that the writ for the Glenrothes by-election will be moved by the Westminster Government on 13th October with the by-election being held on Thursday November 6th, SNP candidate Cllr Peter Grant said:

"The SNP campaign has been gathering momentum, but we will never take the support of local residents for granted.

"I am working hard for every single vote, and have been really encouraged by the positive response on the doorsteps. People in Fife know that the SNP is on their side and that it is only a vote for the SNP that will see Westminster take action on rising energy prices.

"On every doorstep people are concerned about the rising cost of living and the soaring price of gas and electricity. As we approach winter Labour offer nothing but cold comfort to those who are struggling to pay their bills. Instead of easing the burdent Labour have doubled income tax and ignored calls for help with rising fuel bills.

"In contrast the SNP has already helped people across Fife by freezing the council tax, lifting tolls on the Forth and Tay Bridges, reducing prescription charges and cutting business rates for the small businesses that keep our economy going.

"I've lived and worked in Fife, and understand what Fife has to offer and what it needs to take the next step forward.

"Voters in Glasgow East sent a message to Gordon Brown and won a freeze in fuel duty. Now it is the turn of voters in Glenrothes to win action on rising fuel bills this winter.

"A vote for the SNP sends a clear message to the Government in London

- that they have to act on rising household bills. London only listens when the SNP win - it's Fife's turn now."

Central Fife MSP Tricia Marwick added:

"Peter Grant is a great local champion and has campaigned for years on local issues such as tolls on the Forth and Tay bridges, now abolished by the SNP. Fife Council, led by Peter Grant, has frozen the council tax, after it had risen by 61% under Labour.

"Peter is ready and able to be the new, powerful voice that speaks up for the needs of the local community at Westminster."
