Bus travel guaranteed

The service will help connect communities across Glasgow East linking Baillieston with the Fort.  Mr Mason also welcomed the Scottish Government's guarantee for the concessionary travel scheme and condemned Labour for scaremongering pensioners on this essential service.

Cllr Mason said;

"This new bus route will be of great benefit to people in Baillieston, connecting communities across the East End of Glasgow and giving those who work and shop at the Fort easier access by public transport.

"I am sure many people who benefit from the Scottish Government's concessionary fares scheme will make great use of this new bus service.

"It is unfortunate that Labour have chosen to use this by-election campaign to spread inaccurate fears and smears over concessionary travel, despite being told in June that the future of the scheme was guaranteed. It is a mark of the panic in Labour ranks that they would aim to cause undue anxiety for pensioners. They could be ashamed of themselves.

"There is no threat. There will be no reduction in the service. Pensioners and disabled people will continue to enjoy free travel across Scotland, at all times.

"The fact is that the Scottish Government is extending the scheme. Injured military veterans will also now qualify for free travel.

"This new bus route and the concessionary fares scheme are essential to public transport in the East End of Glasgow and I am pleased the SNP has had a key role to play in both."
