Biography
Grant was born in Dundee, brought up in Alyth, Perthshire, and has spent his adult life working and living in Edinburgh and Glasgow.
Grant's work experience has ranged from hotel management, social work with offenders, managing a credit union, social economy adviser, SNP campaign manager and latterly a lobbyist for renewable energy.
Volunteering has played a large part in his life starting as an alcohol counsellor, credit union volunteer, trade union treasurer, serving on SCVO Policy Committee and recently as a Board member of Friends of the Earth Scotland.
Grant joined the SNP in 1986 and has served in many roles from branch secretary and organiser, to being elected to the National Executive for the last two years.
Grant has innovated for the SNP, setting up the first National Call Centre, establishing the Independence referendum question into voter ID scripts and creating one of the Scotland's best political blogs: Tartan Hero.
In May 2007, Grant was elected to Glasgow City Council and is SNP Environment & Sustainability Spokesperson, and Secretary of the Association of Nationalist Councillors (ANC).
In October 2007, the National Secretary appointed Grant as the NEC's Equality Champion, charged with developing an Equality Action Plan for the National Conference 2008.
