Alex Salmond upbeat over Scottish economy
First Minister Alex Salmond gave an upbeat account of Scotland's economic health today, ahead of a meeting of top advisers.
The council of economic advisers set up by Mr Salmond is holding its third summit later today, meeting for the first time in Glasgow.
Mr Salmond said the council would be focusing on how to boost sustainable economic growth in the face of "challenging" global conditions.
"The challenge for government and Scotland as a whole, is to ensure that we keep ahead of the curve and Scottish families are protected from the worst impact of any downturn."
"The advice of the council of economic advisers will be crucial on this point."
He said recent economic indicators showed "a degree of resilience" in Scotland which could be built on.
These included a stable housing market, unemployment figures better than the UK's, and this week's saving of 800 jobs in Cumbernauld.
"Scotland is clearly not immune from global economic pressures and there is not a shred of complacency in the government", said Mr Salmond.
"However, we must recognise the strengths in our economy and build on positive trends."
