Parliamentary Assistant to Maureen Watt MSP
JOB DESCRIPTION
A vacancy currently exists for a Parliamentary Assistant to Maureen Watt MSP. The successful candidate will assist Ms. Watt in carrying out her parliamentary and constituency duties as an MSP. The position will be based in the North East constituency office, Aberdeen.
Key Duties
- Dealing with constituency casework
- Dealing with the press, including writing press releases and comments for press publication.
- Managing MSP Diary including liaising with Minister’s private office to coordinate parliamentary and ministerial diaries.
- Writing regular newspaper columns for local press.
- Liaising and communicating with the SNP Parliamentary Group and local government representatives.
- Monitoring MSP’s email.
- Arranging, facilitating and keeping note of meetings.
- Attending events and briefings on behalf of Ms. Watt.
- Briefing MSP for media appearances, events and meetings.
- Occasionally helping to organise parliamentary events sponsored by Ms. Watt
- Basic secretarial and administrative duties.
Person Specification
The suitable candidate should be educated to degree level and preferably have some relevant work experience in the field of politics, policy or media. A keen interest in politics and media affairs is essential and an understanding of the parliamentary process is desirable. The candidate must have excellent writing and communication skills, good IT skills and a strong ability to multi-task.
Hours of work
This is a full time position of 37.5 hours per week with 25 days annual leave.
