SNP's Fergus Wood becomes Stirling Provost

The SNP group took control of Stirling Council after a vote of no confidence in the Labour administration.

Cllr Wood is the first SNP provost in Stirling since Dr Robert MacIntyre in 1967.

Provost Wood said: “It is a great honour to be elected by my colleagues as Provost of Stirling. I will serve the people of this area as civic head of the Council to the best of my abilities, and I look forward to getting to work.

It is also a particular honour to follow in the footsteps of Dr. Robert McIntyre, who served this town as provost between 1967 and 1975. I certainly hope that in my term as Provost, I can perform this important role with the same distinction as Dr. McIntyre."
