Welcome to the SNP Website
Welcome to our new look SNP website. We have a host of new features, including new forums, interactive issues, syndicated news feeds and more.
Website members (and of course party members) are able to post on our forums, and to leave comments on many of the pages around the site. We hope that in the near future we will be able to invite you to help us develop some of our key policies.
We also, of course, have a new look and feel, headlined by images of the Scottish Parliament at Holyrood. As well as getting a facelift our website has also changed software, moving from Plone to Drupal.
So do you like what you see? Leave a comment and let us know.

Hello
Hello
Hello Lynda!
Given that we hear so much nowadays about the rise of political apathy, it is great to see you, and the other people joining us recently, bucking a trend in which our rivals still appear to be mired!
It is time to move Scotland forward
Scotland is steeped in culture and history. I think that it is time to take Scotland forward through the Scottish Government creating a culture of aspirations and opportunity for all.
That also means that the people should be allowed to place their own blogs on the SNP site to encourage democartic debate and contribute to the new Politics of ideas in taking this nation state forward.
That means reaching out to all political divides and working collectively to improve the geo social ,economic and political fabric of the nation state of Scotland.
Scotland has many talents and is not just reliant upon the North Sea Oil, there is scope for improvement for the nation's economy as a whole.
That is the vision I would like to see in the Scottish Government in taking the nation forward.
The future is bright and there is much to look forward to.
The First Minister is a leader for all the people and of all the social strata's. A nation with ideas and vision is one that is rich in its intellectual portfolio.
One day there would be a Secretary General at the United Nations who would be from Scotland, that would be a very proud day for Scotland as a whole. As a nation state it can take its seat amongst the community of nation states at the United Nations and equally within the European Union as well.
There should be a culture of positive entrepreneuralism in Scotland and also to creating new business as well as prosperity for the nation as a whole.
The first year in Government has shown that the SNP are able to lead as a Government for all the people. The next year shall be equally a good year in Government.
Well done to a very fine First Minister who shall continue to tell the people as it is and be a very successful leader for Scotland.

ethno-centricism revisited
As an ex-pat (born in Scotland) now living in the USA I thought you might be interested in an e-mail exchange I just had with BBC World News. It just goes to show how deep and pervasive English ethno-centrisism is in so-called British institutions. Even the indignant response from the spokesman for the BBC makes the point better than I could. Read the whole thing.
More importantly, isn't it time to tackle this subject (again) in these times of political correctness- seems our English cousins still don't get it!

comment: Did I really hear Matt Frei on BBC America news recently use
the terms 'Great Britain', 'England' and 'Britain' in the same article
to describe the UK National Health Service being set up 60 years ago? As
I understood it, the NHS was for the whole UK, was it not. "Great
Britain" does not include Northern Ireland; "England" ignores N.Ireland,
Wales and Scotland. Only the term Britain is correct in its use to
describe a national initiative for the whole of the UK.
>This is not the first time I've had to complain about these inaccurate
and offensive terms being used on your network - but to have one of your
anchors perpetuate this narrow minded, uneducated terminology is not
only against your written policy but is offensive to non-GB and
non-English members of the UK. This has got to stop.
