Failed asylum seekers made homeless in Glasgow

SNP MSP for Glasgow Ms Sandra White has today (Tuesday) called for an explanation from Glasgow City Council following the revelation that houses earmarked for the use by asylum seekers may be currently unoccupied. Ms White said:

“Glasgow City Council are currently evicting asylum seekers who have had their application to stay rejected despite the fact that they have yet to be allocated a departure date, which is leaving them with nowhere to go but the streets.

“In light of this, the revelation that accommodation earmarked for asylum seekers in Glasgow may be lying empty is simply outrageous. There seems to be no co-ordination between the Home Office and Glasgow City Council on this matter and no consideration of the individual and family needs of the asylum seekers.

“I have written to both the Home Office and Glasgow City Council seeking clarification and dialogue on this matter as the current situation simply cannot be allowed to continue.”
